Great Wall Hiking (Jinshanling to Simatai)
Jinshanling is a section of the Great Wall of China that is located in the mountainous area 120 km northeast of Beijing. It is sandwiched between the Gubeikou section of the Great Wall in the west and the Great Wall at Simatai in the east. Jinshanling was initially built in the years from 1386 to 1389 AD, and was rebuilt in 1571, in the Ming Dynasty. Now Jinshanling has been recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage site. With its fantastic scenery and precipitous topography, the Great Wall between Jinshanling and Simatai is a remarkable place for sightseeing, exploration and hiking. The 11 km, typically 4 hour, hike from Jinshanling to the west of Simatai provides fine views of the winding Wall and watchtowers of various designs.
