Cormorant is a water bird with black –purple feather and a flat and long bill. Tamed cormorants are fishermen’s good partner in fishing. Fisherman along Li River are often seen standing on a bamboo raft, a bamboo basket and two or more cormorants that sometimes perch on the raft and at other times dive into the deep river to catch fish, this traditional fishing method has become a typical sight of the Li River. Nowadays, the tamed cormorants are use not only for fishing, but also for tourist purposes. There are paid services at the river bank in Yangshuo, allowing tourist to take photos of/with the fishing birds. Has been arose the awareness of the Cormorants along the Li River.

Cormorant fishing is a traditional way of caching fish by the local fish man, they are mostly seen in the certain part along the Li River between Yangdi and Xingpin Town, some fisherman bring their cormorants to the Shuidongmen Wharf in the end of West Street, where the cruise boat boarding in Yangshuo. Usually they charge 5 Yuan for a photo of/with their Cormorants.

The river bank is the best location for photography cormorants, picture composition better to combine with cormorants, fisherman and bamboo raft, all these can be integrated into the overall picture of Li Ricer scenery, mountains, green trees and bamboo. Close-up shots are use to feature the cormorant itself. If prefer to spot a bamboo raft with cormorants on board near the river bank, should ask the fisherman for permission to shoot. You’d expect to pay 5 Yuan or sometimes they are not asking for money.
